The Systems Development Engineer (SDE) role sits at the heart of Googleβs infrastructure ecosystem. As an SDE, you will design, build, and maintain largeβscale services that power Googleβs internal and external platforms. The position blends software engineering with deep systems knowledge, allowing you to automate repetitive tasks, improve reliability, and enhance security across the organization. You will work closely with Identity and Access Management (IAM) teams, security engineers, and product owners to deliver robust, observable, and highly available solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, implement, test, and maintain scalable systems and services with a high degree of autonomy.
2. Develop automation tools using Python or Go to reduce manual toil and improve operational efficiency.
3. Serve as a technical lead for IAMβrelated initiatives, providing expertise and guidance.
4. Diagnose and resolve production incidents, participating in onβcall rotations.
5. Collaborate with crossβfunctional teams to architect secure and efficient IAM workflows.
6. Create monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to ensure observability.
7. Drive continuous process improvements and contribute to bestβpractice documentation.
8. Partner with security engineers to plan and execute infrastructure changes affecting the global workforce.
9. Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge through code reviews and tech talks.
10. Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning of critical services.
Tech Stack: Linux, Python, Go, Bash, Kubernetes, Docker, GCP services, IAM APIs, Prometheus/Grafana, Terraform, Git.
Growth Path: Starting as an SDE, you can progress to Senior SDE, Staff Engineer, and eventually to Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer, with opportunities to lead largeβscale projects and influence Googleβs global infrastructure strategy.
