The role of Software Engineer II in Google Cloud is designed for engineers who have at least one year of professional experience and a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals. As a member of a critical project team, you will design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software solutions that run on Googleβs massive infrastructure. You will collaborate with crossβfunctional teams, participate in rigorous code reviews, and troubleshoot issues that span hardware, networking, and software layers. The position offers exposure to distributed systems, AI services, and data storage technologies, providing a fastβtrack path to senior engineering roles or specialized tracks such as Machine Learning, Security, or Site Reliability Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software components for Google Cloud services.
2. Write clean, efficient, and wellβdocumented code following Googleβs style guidelines.
3. Conduct thorough peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
4. Triage, debug, and resolve complex system issues, analyzing hardware and network impacts.
5. Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to define feature requirements.
6. Optimize code for performance, reliability, and costβefficiency at massive scale.
7. Participate in onβcall rotations and incident response for production services.
8. Contribute to internal tooling and automation to improve development workflows.
9. Stay updated with emerging technologies in AI, distributed computing, and cloud infrastructure.
10. Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge through tech talks and documentation.
