Job Description & Key Responsibilities
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is one of the world’s largest IT services, consulting and business solutions organisations. With a presence in over 46 countries and a workforce of more than 600,000 professionals, TCS has consistently been recognised for its innovation, sustainability and employee‑first culture. The company’s vision is to help customers become "business‑ready" for the digital age, leveraging cutting‑edge technologies such as AI, cloud, blockchain and robotics. For fresh science graduates, TCS offers a unique pathway – the B.Sc Ignite and Smart Hiring programmes – that bridges the gap between a non‑engineering academic background and a high‑impact software career.
The Ignite track is an intensive, globally‑aligned learning experience that transforms science graduates into software engineers. Participants undergo a world‑class Initial Learning Program covering cloud platforms, AI/ML, generative AI, AR/VR, blockchain and digital engineering. The Smart track, while equally rigorous, focuses on broader roles across engineering, quality assurance, data analytics and other functional domains, blending technical depth with strong process and communication skills. Both tracks promise a compensation structure that can grow up to 2.5× within the first two years, along with higher‑education opportunities that contribute 50% of academic credit.
Key responsibilities:
1. Participate in the Initial Learning Program and acquire proficiency in core programming languages (Java, Python, C#) and modern development frameworks.
2. Contribute to real‑time project modules under the guidance of senior engineers, writing clean, testable code.
3. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, develop, and deploy cloud‑native solutions.
4. Apply data‑analytics techniques to extract insights and support decision‑making.
5. Engage in code reviews, unit testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
6. Assist in quality assurance activities, including test case creation and defect tracking.
7. Stay updated with emerging technologies such as Generative AI, Robotics Process Automation and Blockchain, and propose innovative use‑cases.
8. Communicate progress, challenges and solutions effectively to stakeholders.
9. Participate in internal hackathons and knowledge‑sharing sessions to foster a culture of continuous learning.
10. Pursue optional postgraduate certifications offered by top Indian universities, leveraging the 50% credit benefit.
Tech stack: Java, Python, C#, SQL/NoSQL databases, AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, AI/ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch), Blockchain frameworks, AR/VR toolkits.
Growth path: Graduates start as Associate Software Engineers, progress to Senior Engineer, Lead, Solution Architect and eventually to managerial or specialist roles. The programme’s strong focus on up‑skilling and higher‑education ensures a fast‑track career trajectory.
Why join TCS? TCS offers a stable, globally recognised brand, exposure to cutting‑edge projects, a structured learning ecosystem, and a clear, merit‑based promotion framework. The Ignite and Smart Hiring programmes are tailored to empower science graduates, making TCS an ideal launchpad for a rewarding IT career.
