About the role
Tata Communications is a global digital ecosystem enabler that offers connectivity, cloud, mobility, IoT, collaboration, security, media and network services to enterprises worldwide. With a presence in over 200 countries, the company plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining the backbone of modern communication. Its engineering divisions are known for delivering largeβscale telecom infrastructure projects, ranging from submarine cables to terrestrial wireless sites, and for fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous learning.
As a CAD Engineer (Fresher) in the Engineering/Design department, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that translates telecom design concepts into precise technical drawings and 3D models. The role is centered on creating structural layouts for wireless sites, antenna placements, equipment racks, and related civil works. You will collaborate closely with project engineers, survey teams, and vendors to ensure that every drawing adheres to industry standards, safety norms, and client specifications.
This position offers a solid foundation for a career in telecom infrastructure design and provides exposure to realβworld projects that power India's digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings for wireless telecom sites, including foundations, towers, and equipment shelters.
- Produce structural design calculations and supporting documentation for antenna and mast installations.
- Interpret survey reports, site photographs, and client briefs to create accurate layout plans.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical and RF engineers to integrate multidisciplinary requirements into a cohesive design.
- Maintain drawing libraries and ensure version control across multiple projects.
- Perform quality checks to verify compliance with Tata Communications design standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in preparing bill of materials and technical specifications for procurement.
- Participate in design review meetings and incorporate feedback promptly.
- Support field teams during site execution by providing clarifications and updated drawings.
- Continuously update personal knowledge of emerging telecom technologies and CAD tools.
Tech Stack: AutoCAD (with certification), basic knowledge of Revit or Civil 3D is a plus, MS Office suite, familiarity with telecom design standards (e.g., ITU, BICSI).
Growth Path: Freshers can progress to Senior CAD Engineer, then to Design Lead, and eventually to Project Manager or Technical Architect, depending on performance and additional certifications.
Why Join Tata Communications? The company offers exposure to highβimpact projects, a collaborative environment that values learning, and a clear career ladder for engineers. Working here means contributing to the backbone of India's digital future while building a robust skill set in telecom infrastructure design.
