Red Hat is the world’s leading provider of enterprise open‑source solutions, renowned for its Linux distribution, hybrid‑cloud platforms, container orchestration (OpenShift) and emerging AI tools. With a heritage of over two decades, Red Hat has built a global engineering ecosystem that powers millions of servers, clouds and edge devices. The company’s culture emphasizes collaboration, meritocracy, and continuous learning, allowing engineers to contribute to high‑impact, production‑grade code that is used by Fortune‑500 enterprises worldwide. As part of the Red Hat Freshers Internship 2026, the Software Engineer Intern role offers a unique window into the world of large‑scale open‑source development. Interns are embedded within product engineering teams in Bangalore, working side‑by‑side with senior engineers, product managers and quality engineers. The 6‑month program blends real‑world coding assignments with structured mentorship, technical workshops, and exposure to Red Hat’s global engineering community. Key responsibilities include: 1. Collaborate with senior mentors to design, develop, test, and maintain code in Python, Golang or JavaScript. 2. Implement new features and enhancements for core Red Hat products such as RHEL and OpenShift. 3. Identify, debug, and resolve bugs, and track issues using Red Hat’s internal ticketing system. 4. Write unit tests and contribute to automated test suites to ensure code quality. 5. Participate in Agile ceremonies – sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives. 6. Use GitHub for version control, code reviews and collaborative development. 7. Work closely with Quality Engineering, UX, Product Management and Documentation teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions. 8. Attend technical learning sessions, mentorship workshops, and open‑source contribution events organized by the Emerging Talent Team. 9. Contribute to open‑source repositories, adhering to community guidelines and best practices. 10. Document code, design decisions and knowledge transfers for future interns and team members. The tech stack revolves around Linux environments, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), programming languages like Python, Go, JavaScript, and tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Agile project management suites. Successful interns often transition to full‑time Software Engineer roles, with clear growth paths into product development, platform engineering, or specialized open‑source communities. Joining Red Hat provides exposure to cutting‑edge technologies, a supportive learning ecosystem, and the chance to make a tangible impact on software that powers critical infrastructure worldwide. The internship is an ideal launchpad for fresh graduates who are passionate about open source, cloud native computing, and collaborative engineering.

Explain OOP (Object-Oriented Programming) principles with real-world examples in Python. Answer ▼
Model Answer: 1. Encapsulation (data hiding via private fields/getters). 2. Abstraction (hiding implementation complexity). 3. Inheritance (code reusability). 4. Polymorphism (method overriding/overloading).
What is the time and space complexity of QuickSort vs MergeSort? Answer ▼
Model Answer: QuickSort: Average O(N log N) time, O(log N) space. Worst O(N^2). MergeSort: Guaranteed O(N log N) time, but requires O(N) auxiliary space.
Explain the difference between SQL Indexing (B-Tree vs Hash) and when not to use an index. Answer ▼
Model Answer: Indexes speed up SELECT queries via B-Trees. However, they slow down INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE operations because indexes must be updated on disk. Avoid on low-cardinality columns (e.g., boolean flags).
What happens under the hood when you enter a URL in a browser? Answer ▼
Model Answer: 1. DNS lookup (resolves IP). 2. TCP 3-way handshake (SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK). 3. TLS negotiation for HTTPS. 4. HTTP GET request sent. 5. Server responds with HTML/CSS/JS. 6. Browser renders DOM & CSSOM tree.
What is the difference between REST and GraphQL APIs? Answer ▼
Model Answer: REST uses multiple fixed endpoints with possible over/under-fetching. GraphQL uses a single endpoint allowing clients to query exact fields in a single request.
