Scatterlink is an emerging technology firm that specializes in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for the mining sector. The company’s flagship product is an inventory tracking platform that connects physical assetsβ€”such as ore, equipment, and consumablesβ€”to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. By leveraging RFID, barcode scanners, and real‑time data pipelines, Scatterlink helps mining operators improve material visibility, reduce loss, and streamline logistics across both surface and underground environments. The firm has a lean, engineering‑focused culture and is expanding its development centre in Andheri, Mumbai, to meet growing demand from global mining clients. As a Backend Engineer at Scatterlink, you will be part of a cross‑functional team that builds the core services powering the IoT platform. You will design, develop, test, and maintain secure, scalable APIs using TypeScript and Node.js, and you will be responsible for integrating complex data streams from Kafka‑based pipelines into the ERP layer. The role requires close collaboration with frontend engineers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure reliable releases and robust offline synchronization for remote mining sites. Key Responsibilities: 1. Design and implement RESTful and gRPC APIs in TypeScript for inventory receipt, count, transfer, and issue workflows. 2. Build and maintain Kafka consumers and producers to process RFID, barcode, and sensor data in real time. 3. Develop integration modules for major ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) to push and pull inventory data. 4. Write unit, integration, and performance tests to guarantee code quality and reliability. 5. Optimize database schemas and queries for high‑throughput transactional workloads. 6. Collaborate with frontend teams to define contract specifications and ensure seamless data flow. 7. Implement security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption. 8. Monitor system health using observability tools, set up alerts, and troubleshoot production incidents. 9. Participate in code reviews, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives. 10. Contribute to documentation, API specifications, and technical design artifacts. Tech Stack: TypeScript, Node.js, Express, Kafka, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), Git, CI/CD pipelines. Growth Path: Starting as a Backend Engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Tech Lead, or Architecture roles within 2‑4 years, with opportunities to lead product modules or move into product management. The company encourages upskilling through certifications, internal workshops, and conference attendance. Why Join Scatterlink? You will work on cutting‑edge IoT solutions that have a tangible impact on the mining industry, gain exposure to large‑scale data engineering, and be part of a fast‑growing startup that values innovation, autonomy, and work‑life balance. The Mumbai office offers a collaborative environment with flexible working hours and alternate Saturdays off, ensuring you can maintain a healthy personal life while advancing your technical career.

What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer β–Ό
Model Answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer β–Ό
Model Answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer β–Ό
Model Answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer β–Ό
Model Answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer β–Ό
Model Answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
