The Audit Ingestion team within Microsoft Azure is tasked with building and operating massive distributed systems that collect, process, and store audit and compliance data from all Microsoft cloud services. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will design, develop, and maintain highly scalable backend services and data pipelines that form the backbone of Microsoftβs compliance platform. You will work on endβtoβend solutions that ingest terabytes of telemetry daily, ensure data reliability across regions, and provide observability for downstream security and analytics teams. The role demands a strong ownership mindset, as you will be involved in liveβsite operations, incident response, and continuous improvement of service reliability.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Own the design, development, and operation of ingestion, processing, storage, and movement components for largeβscale audit data.
2. Build resilient, multiβregion services on Azure that meet strict compliance and latency requirements.
3. Implement automation, monitoring, and alerting to improve reliability and reduce manual toil.
4. Participate in onβcall rotations, troubleshoot production incidents, and drive rootβcause analysis.
5. Collaborate with crossβfunctional platform teams to modernize data pipelines and adopt newer cloud technologies.
6. Optimize performance and cost of data processing workloads using stream processing frameworks.
7. Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and documentation to ensure high code quality.
8. Mentor junior engineers and share best practices around distributed systems and observability.
9. Stay updated with security and regulatory changes to ensure the platform remains compliant.
10. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as chaos engineering experiments and capacity planning.
**Tech Stack**: C#, Java, Python, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Event Hubs, Cosmos DB, SQL Server, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Prometheus/Grafana, CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps), Git.
**Growth Path**: Starting as a Software Engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or move into specialized roles such as Cloud Architect, Site Reliability Engineer, or Product Manager within the Azure ecosystem.
