Job Description & Key Responsibilities
Jio, a flagship brand of Reliance Industries, has transformed Indiaβs digital landscape by delivering affordable broadband, mobile services, and a suite of digital applications to billions of users. With over 100,000 employees and a presence in telecommunications, media, and technology, Jioβs mission is to enable a "Digital India" where every citizen can learn, work, and play seamlessly. The company invests heavily in nextβgeneration technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, and satellite communications, positioning itself as a leader in both terrestrial and spaceβbased connectivity.
The System Engineer role is a critical entryβlevel position within Jioβs emerging LowβEarthβOrbit (LEO) satellite constellation team. The candidate will work closely with senior systems engineers, payload designers, and launch partners to translate mission objectives into concrete hardware and software specifications. This role offers a unique blend of aerospace engineering, systems thinking, and handsβon verification experience, making it an ideal launchpad for fresh graduates eager to contribute to cuttingβedge space projects.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Capturing, writing, and managing system and subsystem requirements using a dedicated requirements management tool while ensuring bidirectional traceability from mission needs to verification.
2. Defining and controlling interfaces between subsystems, payload, ground segment, and launch vehicle, and preparing detailed Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
3. Contributing to system architecture definition, functional breakdown structures, and maintaining design baselines.
4. Conducting tradeβoff studies on architecture options, redundancy, sizing, and makeβorβbuy decisions, documenting rationale and recommendations.
5. Building and maintaining system budgets for mass, power, link, data, and pointing, and analysing performance against requirements.
6. Supporting spacecraft subsystem design through analysis and modelling, including Finite Element Method (FEM), thermal modelling, and integration with PLM/ERP tools.
7. Preparing technical material for Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) and tracking closure of review actions.
8. Developing verification plans and matrices, assigning verification methods (test, analysis, inspection, demonstration), and tracking requirement status to closure.
9. Maintaining all systemsβengineering documentation, baselines, and records under strict configuration control.
10. Collaborating with crossβfunctional teams to ensure timely delivery of deliverables and adherence to project schedules.
The technical stack for this role includes requirement management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, Jama), CAD/CAE software (CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS), MATLAB/Simulink for modelling, PLM platforms (Teamcenter), and ERP systems for budget tracking. Soft skills such as strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork are equally important.
Growth path: Starting as a System Engineer, high performers can progress to Senior System Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, and eventually to System Architecture Manager or Programme Manager for satellite missions. Jio encourages continuous learning through internal training programs, certifications, and exposure to global aerospace partners.
Why join Jio? Apart from the prestige of working with one of Indiaβs most innovative tech giants, you will be part of a pioneering LEO satellite initiative that aims to provide broadband connectivity to remote regions. The role offers handsβon experience with realβworld spacecraft systems, mentorship from seasoned aerospace professionals, and a competitive compensation package that scales with performance.
