The Windows + Devices Fundamentals team, part of the Windows Engineering division, focuses on the reliability, compatibility, performance, battery life, and sustainability of Windows devices. This team works closely with hardware OEMs, firmware teams, and application developers to ensure a seamless experience across the Windows ecosystem.
The role of Software Engineer on this team is designed for earlyβcareer talent who are eager to understand complex system interactions and contribute to realβworld product improvements. You will analyze telemetry, debug system issues, and design optimizations that directly affect millions of Windows PCs worldwide. The position offers exposure to lowβlevel system code, performanceβanalysis tools, and largeβscale data pipelines, making it an ideal launchpad for a career in systems software.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze telemetry and trace data to identify performance bottlenecks on individual devices and at scale.
2. Use debugging and profiling tools to investigate systemβlevel issues.
3. Propose and implement optimization opportunities across OS and application layers.
4. Write, test, and maintain highβquality code in languages such as C++, C#, and Python.
5. Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality.
6. Validate solutions with dataβdriven experiments and performance metrics.
7. Collaborate with crossβfunctional teams including hardware, firmware, and partner engineering groups.
8. Document findings, design decisions, and best practices for future reference.
9. Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tooling.
10. Stay updated with emerging technologies in AI, silicon, and system optimization.
