The role of Backend Engineer, AS is situated within the Global Financial Crime Intelligence Unit (GFCIU) of the AntiโFinancial Crime (AFC) department. This team is responsible for building and maintaining platforms that detect, prevent and mitigate financial crime, ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory standards worldwide. As a backend engineer, you will join an agile Scrum team that delivers highโimpact features for the AFC business, working with cuttingโedge Java technologies and cloudโnative deployment models.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Design, develop and maintain highโperformance Java microโservices using Java 17, Spring Boot and Hibernate.
2. Build and expose RESTful APIs that integrate with internal and external systems.
3. Write unit tests with JUnit and ensure code quality through code reviews and static analysis.
4. Optimize SQL queries and database schemas in Oracle/SQL Server for performance and scalability.
5. Participate in CI/CD pipelines using Maven, Git, Jenkins/TeamCity and Docker for automated builds and deployments.
6. Collaborate with product owners, QA engineers and UI developers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
7. Contribute to architectural discussions around eventโdriven designs, microโservice communication and container orchestration.
8. Produce comprehensive documentation, lowโlevel design artifacts and support production incidents.
9. Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in clean code, testโdriven development and agile ceremonies.
10. Stay updated with emerging technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenShift and AIโassisted coding tools, and propose improvements where relevant.
The tech stack revolves around Java 17, Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST APIs, Oracle/SQL Server, Linux, Shell scripting, Maven, Git, Jenkins/TeamCity, Docker and optionally Kubernetes/OpenShift for container orchestration. Familiarity with design patterns, eventโdriven architectures and cloudโnative deployments is essential.
Growth path: Starting as a Backend Engineer, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually Architect or Engineering Manager within the AFC Technology division.
