Job Description & Key Responsibilities
Harmonic is a global technology company that specializes in virtualised broadband solutions and networking infrastructure. The firm’s portfolio includes the cOS platform, fibre and DOCSIS networking products, and AI‑driven network intelligence services. With a strong focus on innovation, Harmonic serves cable operators and service providers worldwide, helping them deliver high‑speed connectivity and manage complex network environments. The company’s engineering culture emphasizes collaborative problem‑solving, continuous learning, and the use of modern development practices such as Agile, DevOps, and containerisation.
The Junior C++ Engineer role is positioned within Harmonic’s Broadband Business Unit in Bengaluru. Reporting to a senior software architect, the engineer will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of networking protocol software that runs on Linux servers and containerised platforms. The position is ideal for early‑career professionals with 1‑3 years of hands‑on C++ development experience who are eager to deepen their expertise in multithreaded systems, networking stacks, and high‑performance Linux applications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, develop, and test C/C++ features for MAC and upper‑layer protocol modules.
2. Implement multithreaded components using modern C++ concurrency primitives.
3. Write clean, maintainable code following object‑oriented design principles and established design patterns.
4. Debug and troubleshoot complex software issues reported by QA or customers, using Linux tooling and performance profilers.
5. Contribute to code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to coding standards.
6. Collaborate with global Agile Scrum teams to estimate effort, plan sprints, and deliver incremental releases.
7. Develop supporting scripts and automation tools in Python to streamline build, test, and deployment workflows.
8. Participate in containerisation efforts, creating Docker images and configuring Kubernetes deployments for the networking services.
9. Assist in integrating DOCSIS‑related functionality and stay updated on broadband standards.
10. Explore AI‑assisted development tools to improve code quality, documentation, and testing efficiency.
Tech Stack: C++ (C++14/17), Linux, POSIX threads, STL, Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Python, networking libraries (sockets, Boost.Asio), CI/CD pipelines, Agile Scrum.
Growth Path: Junior engineers can progress to Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and eventually to Technical Lead or Architecture roles, with opportunities to specialise in networking protocols, performance engineering, or cloud‑native platform development. Harmonic supports continuous upskilling through internal training, certifications, and exposure to cutting‑edge broadband technologies.
Why Join Harmonic: The company offers a vibrant hybrid work model, exposure to global customers, and the chance to work on products that power the next generation of broadband connectivity. Engineers benefit from mentorship by seasoned architects, a culture that rewards innovation, and competitive compensation aligned with industry standards.
