Job Description & Key Responsibilities
Airbus India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the global aerospace leader Airbus, has been shaping the Indian aviation landscape for over five decades. With a strong focus on sustainable aerospace solutions, the company blends cutting‑edge technology with a culture of collaboration, innovation and safety. Its Bangalore hub brings together engineers, researchers and support staff who work on everything from aircraft structures to digital mock‑up environments, contributing to Airbus’s worldwide portfolio of commercial, defence and space programmes. The organisation is known for its inclusive work environment, encouraging diversity of thought and providing ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The Structures Internship is a six‑month, full‑time program slated to begin in January 2027 (flexible dates). Interns will be immersed in the end‑to‑end workflow of Finite Element Modelling (FEM) for static, fatigue and damage‑tolerance analyses. Working closely with the Flight Physics team and other cross‑functional groups, the intern will help create, validate and manage high‑fidelity FEMs that feed into the broader structural analysis pipeline. This role offers a rare chance to experience real‑world aerospace engineering practices, from data management to the integration of loads and weight‑balance information.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop detailed Finite Element Models for static, fatigue and damage tolerance studies.
2. Support FEM generation for Flight Physics and related organisations.
3. Ensure seamless linkage between FEMs and Digital Mock‑Up (DMU) to maintain digital continuity.
4. Select appropriate FE analysis tools based on project requirements.
5. Manage data storage, version control and documentation of FEM assets.
6. Verify post‑processing results and ensure compatibility with downstream structural analysis tools.
7. Coordinate load transfer from Global FEM (GFEM) to Detailed FEM (DFEM) and validate boundary conditions.
8. Draft modelling guidelines, verification and validation procedures.
9. Implement advanced FE solutions such as Nastran DMAP customisation, sub‑structuring, and implicit/explicit solvers.
10. Apply material non‑linearity, damage and failure models for high‑fidelity simulations.
Tech Stack: Nastran (including DMAP), HyperMesh/Patran for pre‑processing, MATLAB/Python for scripting and post‑processing, CATIA/Siemens NX for geometry, PLM tools for data management, and basic knowledge of CFD‑compatible formats.
Growth Path: Successful interns may be offered full‑time roles in Structural Analysis, Design Optimisation or Systems Engineering within Airbus India or other Airbus locations worldwide. The exposure to industry‑standard tools and processes accelerates learning and opens doors to senior engineering positions.
Why Join Airbus? The internship provides hands‑on experience with aerospace‑grade FEM tools, mentorship from seasoned engineers, and a glimpse into the collaborative culture that drives one of the world’s most respected aerospace manufacturers. Interns also benefit from Airbus’s commitment to diversity, flexible working arrangements and a strong emphasis on safety and ethical engineering practices.
