About the role

Tata Communications is a globally recognised digital infrastructure enabler that helps enterprises transform through cloud, IoT, mobility, security and media services. With a presence in more than 200 countries, the company delivers end‑to‑end connectivity solutions and drives innovation across telecom, data centre and managed services. Its culture emphasizes continuous learning, collaboration and a strong customer‑centric mindset, making it an attractive destination for technology professionals who want to work on large‑scale, impact‑driven projects.

The Junior Software Developer role is positioned within the Software & Application Development team in Pune. As a full‑stack developer, you will be part of a dynamic squad that builds modern web applications used by internal teams and external clients. The position offers exposure to both frontend and backend stacks, allowing you to sharpen your coding skills, understand API design, and work with relational databases in a production environment.

You will also interact with senior architects, product managers and quality engineers, gaining a holistic view of the software delivery lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include

  • Design and implement responsive UI components using React.js, ensuring cross‑browser compatibility and performance.
  • Develop server‑side services with Node.js, handling business logic, authentication and data processing.
  • Write clean, maintainable Java and Python modules where required for legacy integration or specialised services.
  • Create, document and consume RESTful APIs, managing versioning and error handling.
  • Optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL queries, design schema changes and ensure data integrity.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit testing and integration testing to maintain high code quality.
  • Debug production issues, perform root‑cause analysis and propose fixes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams using Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Use Maven for build automation and manage dependencies for Java projects.
  • Monitor application health using Zabbix and assist in incident resolution.

The tech stack revolves around React.js, Node.js, Java, Python, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Maven and Zabbix. You will gain hands‑on experience with cloud‑native patterns, CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps tools. Career growth can follow a trajectory from Junior Developer to Mid‑Level Engineer, then to Lead Engineer or Solution Architect, with opportunities to specialise in cloud services, data engineering or product management.

Joining Tata Communications means working on real‑world solutions that power global communications, receiving mentorship from seasoned professionals, and benefiting from a supportive environment that values innovation and work‑life balance.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
