About the role

Magica is an emerging technology startup focused on building intelligent solutions for the Indian market. Founded in 2020, the company has quickly grown its portfolio to include AI‑driven platforms for e‑commerce, fintech, and logistics. With a team of over 150 engineers, product designers, and data scientists, Magica emphasizes a culture of rapid experimentation, data‑centric decision making, and continuous learning. The organization operates out of Delhi NCR and maintains a collaborative workspace that encourages cross‑functional interaction, mentorship, and ownership of end‑to‑end product development. As a Backend Software Engineer Intern, you will step into a real‑world development environment where you will contribute to building and scaling server‑side services that power Magica’s flagship products. This internship is designed for students who are eager to translate classroom concepts into production‑grade code, understand the nuances of API design, and gain exposure to cloud‑native architectures. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, participate in agile ceremonies, and receive regular feedback to accelerate your growth as a backend developer. Key Responsibilities: 1. Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and micro‑services using Java/Python/Node.js. 2. Write clean, testable, and efficient code following industry best practices. 3. Collaborate with front‑end and product teams to define API contracts and data models. 4. Implement database schemas, write complex SQL queries, and optimize query performance. 5. Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and adopt peer‑reviewed standards. 6. Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues with minimal downtime. 7. Contribute to automated testing frameworks and ensure high test coverage. 8. Document technical specifications, API endpoints, and deployment procedures. 9. Assist in CI/CD pipeline setup using tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions. 10. Stay updated with emerging backend technologies and suggest improvements. Tech Stack: Java, Python, Node.js, Spring Boot, Express.js, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Jenkins. Growth Path: Successful interns may be offered full‑time positions as Junior Backend Engineers, with a clear roadmap to Senior Engineer roles within 2‑3 years. Magica encourages internal mobility, allowing engineers to explore data engineering, DevOps, or product management tracks based on interest and performance. Why Join Magica? You will gain hands‑on experience building scalable backend systems that impact thousands of users daily. The internship offers mentorship from industry veterans, exposure to modern cloud infrastructure, and a vibrant community that celebrates innovation. If you are passionate about solving complex problems and want to launch your career in a fast‑growing tech environment, Magica provides the platform to accelerate your professional journey.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
Behavioural & HR questions 3
