About the role

SociΓ©tΓ© GΓ©nΓ©rale is a leading international financial services group with a strong presence in Europe, Asia and the Americas. In India, the bank has built a robust technology ecosystem that powers its banking operations, digital platforms, risk management tools and data‑driven services. The SG Global Solution Centre in Bengaluru brings together engineers, data scientists and product specialists to create secure, scalable solutions for the bank’s global clientele. The culture emphasizes continuous learning, collaboration across borders, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality financial technology. The role of Software Engineer – Python Developer is positioned within this centre and is aimed at candidates with 1‑3 years of hands‑on Python experience. As a full‑stack contributor, you will design, develop, and maintain Python‑based applications that serve both internal users and external customers. The position blends backend development, API integration, database handling, and light front‑end work, while also offering exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and data‑analysis tasks. The hybrid work model allows you to collaborate in‑office with cross‑functional teams while also enjoying the flexibility of remote days. Key Responsibilities: 1. Design, code, test and deploy scalable Python applications. 2. Develop RESTful APIs and integrate them with front‑end components built using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. 3. Write efficient SQL/NoSQL queries for PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB databases. 4. Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices. 5. Debug and resolve production issues, providing high‑priority support when required. 6. Collaborate with data scientists to embed machine‑learning models into production services. 7. Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and support knowledge‑base articles. 8. Contribute to continuous‑integration pipelines and version‑control workflows using Git. 9. Mentor junior developers and share knowledge through brown‑bag sessions. 10. Stay updated with emerging technologies and propose improvements to existing systems. Tech Stack: Python, Django/Flask (optional), HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React (nice‑to‑have), PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Git, Docker, CI/CD tools, basic ML libraries (scikit‑learn, pandas). Growth Path: Starting as a Software Engineer, high performers can progress to Senior Engineer, Tech Lead, or specialize as a Machine‑Learning Engineer or Solutions Architect within the SG Global Solution Centre. The bank encourages certifications, internal mobility, and participation in global tech forums. Why Join SociΓ©tΓ© GΓ©nΓ©rale? You will be part of a globally recognised financial institution that invests heavily in technology innovation. The hybrid model offers work‑life balance, while the diverse, multicultural team provides a fertile ground for learning. Competitive compensation, robust learning budgets, and clear career ladders make it an attractive destination for ambitious Python developers.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
