About the role

FinBox is a fast‑growing fintech startup headquartered in Bengaluru, focused on building data‑driven credit underwriting solutions for lenders across India. The company leverages AI, machine learning and modern cloud technologies to create end‑to‑end platforms that help financial institutions assess risk, automate approvals and improve customer experience. With a team of seasoned engineers, product managers and data scientists, FinBox has quickly become a trusted partner for banks, NBFCs and alternative lenders, handling billions of dollars in loan disbursements.

FinBox’s culture is rooted in innovation, rapid experimentation and a strong mentorship ethos. New hires are encouraged to take ownership early, work on production‑grade code, and collaborate across product, design and data teams. The organization values curiosity, problem‑solving ability and a passion for building products that have a tangible impact on the financial lives of millions of Indians.

Role Summary

The Software Engineer Intern will join the Front‑End Engineering squad to design, develop, and ship user‑facing features for FinBox’s fintech applications. Reporting to a senior engineer, the intern will get hands‑on exposure to the full product lifecycleβ€”from requirement gathering and UI/UX design to implementation, testing, and deployment. This is a full‑time, on‑site internship based in Bengaluru, ideal for fresh graduates or final‑year students with a strong foundation in modern web technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop responsive web components using React.js and TypeScript.
  • Implement state management patterns with React Hooks and Context API.
  • Consume RESTful APIs to fetch and display borrower data and dashboards.
  • Write clean, modular, and reusable code adhering to FinBox’s coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and incorporate suggestions.
  • Debug UI issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and fix bugs promptly.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate wireframes into functional interfaces.
  • Work closely with backend engineers to define API contracts and data flows.
  • Contribute to unit testing and ensure high test coverage using Jest/React Testing Library.
  • Document features, write technical specifications, and maintain project documentation.

Tech Stack: React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, Git, GitHub, REST APIs, AWS (basic services), CI/CD pipelines.

Growth Path: Successful interns may be offered a full‑time Software Engineer role, with opportunities to specialize in Front‑End, Full‑Stack, or move into product management or data engineering based on performance and interests.

Why Join FinBox?

  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers and exposure to production‑grade fintech products.
  • Opportunity to work on real‑world borrower journeys that affect millions of users.
  • An AI‑first engineering environment that encourages learning new tools and frameworks.

Technical questions 4
What is the bias-variance tradeoff and how do you prevent overfitting? Answer
Model answer: High bias leads to underfitting (oversimplified model), high variance leads to overfitting (captures noise). Mitigate using L1/L2 Regularization, Dropout, Cross-Validation, and data augmentation.
Explain the difference between Precision, Recall, and F1-Score. Answer
Model answer: Precision = TP / (TP + FP) (correctness of positive predictions). Recall = TP / (TP + FN) (coverage of actual positives). F1-Score is the harmonic mean of Precision and Recall.
How does Gradient Descent work and what is the role of Learning Rate? Answer
Model answer: It optimizes loss functions by iteratively moving weights in the direction of negative gradient. A large learning rate may overshoot the minimum; a small rate causes slow convergence.
What is the difference between Supervised, Unsupervised, and Self-Supervised learning? Answer
Model answer: Supervised uses labeled data (X -> y). Unsupervised finds hidden patterns in unlabeled data (clustering/PCA). Self-supervised generates labels from input data (e.g. masked language modeling in BERT/Transformers).
