About the role

GE HealthCare is a global leader in medical technology, digital solutions and healthcare services. With a presence in more than 150 countries, the company combines deep clinical expertise with cutting‑edge engineering to deliver imaging systems, patient monitoring devices, diagnostics and software platforms that improve patient outcomes. In India, GE HealthCare operates large R&D centres that focus on AI‑driven imaging, cloud‑based health analytics and enterprise‑grade software solutions for hospitals and research institutions.

The Bengaluru campus, located in EPIP Phase II, is a hub for innovative software development, where fresh talent works alongside seasoned engineers to build products that directly impact clinical workflows.

The role of Software Engineering Specialist is designed for recent post‑graduate engineers who have a solid grounding in computer science fundamentals and a passion for building reliable, scalable software. As a member of the software engineering team, you will be involved end‑to‑end in the product lifecycle – from gathering requirements and drafting technical design, to writing clean code, integrating web services, performing unit and integration testing, and supporting production deployments. You will collaborate with system engineers, front‑end developers and product managers to deliver features that power GE’s healthcare platforms across cloud, edge and on‑premise environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality software applications and services.
  • Write clean, modular code in Java/Python/C++ following coding standards.
  • Participate in all phases of the SDLC – requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
  • Develop and consume RESTful web services and write efficient SQL queries for data access.
  • Conduct code reviews, unit testing and contribute to continuous integration pipelines.
  • Analyse performance bottlenecks and implement optimisation strategies for scalability.
  • Apply Agile/Lean methodologies, attend sprint planning and daily stand‑ups.
  • Ensure software security best practices and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot production issues and deliver patches.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement and stay updated with emerging technologies.

Tech Stack: Java, Python, C++, REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL, Git, Jenkins/CI‑CD, Docker, Kubernetes (basic exposure), Agile tools (Jira), Linux environment.

Growth Path: Starting as a Software Engineering Specialist, you can progress to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually to Architecture or Product Management roles, with opportunities to work on global GE HealthCare projects and gain exposure to AI‑driven healthcare solutions.

Why Join GE HealthCare? You will work on mission‑critical healthcare software that saves lives, receive mentorship from industry veterans, and benefit from a culture that encourages continuous learning, diversity and work‑life balance. The company offers competitive compensation, health benefits, and a clear career roadmap for technical talent.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
