About the role

Amber is a fast‑growing, global student‑housing platform that operates like a booking.com for university accommodation. With more than 80β€―million students worldwide using the service, Amber manages over 1β€―million housing units across six countries and 100+ cities. Backed by $21β€―million of institutional funding led by Gaja Capital, the company has positioned itself as the largest and most trusted marketplace for student accommodation, simplifying negotiations, paperwork, and payments for both students and property owners. The AI Data Analyst Intern role is a six‑month, full‑time on‑site internship based in Pune. Working directly with business, operations, and product teams, the intern will leverage AI‑driven tools to accelerate data exploration, reporting, and insight generation. The position is designed for fresh graduates or final‑year students who are comfortable writing SQL, building visual dashboards, and using generative AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) as part of their daily workflow. The intern will be expected to validate every AI‑produced output against source data, ensuring accuracy before presenting findings to stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: 1. Own end‑to‑end analytical projects for business, operations, or product teams. 2. Write, debug, and optimise complex SQL queries, using AI assistants to speed up development while personally verifying results. 3. Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards in Tableau or Powerβ€―BI to monitor key performance indicators. 4. Employ AI chatbots and coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot) to automate repetitive reporting tasks and prototype small analytical tools. 5. Identify patterns, gaps, and growth opportunities within large datasets and translate them into actionable recommendations. 6. Present insights and recommendations to cross‑functional stakeholders in a clear, structured manner. 7. Document prompts, workflows, and automation scripts for team reuse and knowledge sharing. 8. Collaborate with senior analysts to refine AI‑first analytical methodologies. 9. Contribute to building a repository of AI‑generated analytical assets for future projects. 10. Continuously learn and experiment with emerging AI and data‑visualisation technologies. Tech Stack: SQL, Tableau/Powerβ€―BI, Excel/Googleβ€―Sheets, AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot), optional Python (pandas) for deeper analysis. Growth Path: High‑performing interns can transition to full‑time Data Analyst or Business Analyst roles, with exposure to product analytics, AI‑driven automation, and strategic decision‑making. The role offers a unique blend of hands‑on data work and cutting‑edge AI experimentation, positioning interns for rapid career advancement in data‑centric product companies. Why Join Amber? You will work on real business problems that impact millions of students globally, not on contrived assignments. The AI‑first culture means you will shape how analytics is done in a high‑growth startup, learning directly from seasoned analysts and product leaders. The collaborative, fast‑paced environment encourages innovation, continuous learning, and visible impact from day one.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
Behavioural & HR questions 3
