Data Analyst
S&P Global
About the role
S&P Global is a worldβleading provider of essential intelligence that powers financial markets, corporations, and governments. With a heritage spanning more than a century, the company operates across four core divisions β Ratings, Market Intelligence, Dow Jones Indices and Platts β delivering data, analytics and insights that help clients make informed decisions. Headquartered in New York, S&P Global employs over 35,000 professionals worldwide and is known for its culture of integrity, discovery and partnership.
The firm invests heavily in technology and talent, offering employees the chance to work on largeβscale data sets, cuttingβedge analytics platforms and industryβdefining research.
The Data Analyst β Fundamentals COE role sits within the Fundamentals Center of Excellence, a specialised team that safeguards the accuracy, consistency and quality of financial data used across S&P Globalβs products. As a fresher, you will be mentored by senior analysts and COE leads, gaining handsβon exposure to US GAAPβbased financial statements, auditβstyle validation techniques and enterpriseβgrade quality frameworks. Your dayβtoβday work will involve reviewing balance sheets, income statements, cashβflow statements and related disclosures, performing crossβstatement checks, variance analysis and documenting any discrepancies for resolution.
Key responsibilities include
- Validate and review financial data against US GAAP standards under guidance.
- Perform classification, mapping and reasonableness checks on balanceβsheet, P&L and cashβflow items.
- Conduct basic crossβstatement reconciliations and variance analyses.
- Identify data gaps or inconsistencies and raise clear, documented escalations.
- Support internal qualityβcontrol checks and auditβreadiness activities.
- Maintain detailed documentation of review findings, corrective actions and SOP adherence.
- Follow standard operating procedures, checklists and quality controls consistently.
- Collaborate with peers and senior team members to clarify accounting treatments.
- Participate in training sessions, knowledgeβsharing forums and continuousβlearning initiatives.

The tech stack is modest for a fresh role β advanced Excel, basic SQL for data extraction, and internal dataβvalidation tools. Over time, analysts may gain exposure to Python, Tableau or PowerBI as the COE expands its automation capabilities. The growth path can lead to senior analyst positions, subjectβmatter expert roles, or transition into broader financial analysis, audit or dataβgovernance careers within S&P Globalβs global network.
Why join S&P Global? The company offers a structured learning environment, mentorship from industry veterans, and the chance to work on data that powers decisions for Fortuneβ500 firms and governments.
