About the role

HCL Technologies is one of India’s largest IT services firms, employing over 230,000 professionals across more than 60 countries. The company focuses on digital, engineering, cloud and AI services, helping clients in sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, life sciences, telecom, retail and public services. With a revenue of $14.8 billion for the fiscal year ending September 2026, HCL has built a reputation for delivering end‑to‑end technology solutions and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

The organization’s "Employees First" philosophy puts people at the core of its strategy, encouraging autonomy, collaboration and rapid skill development.

The Trainee – Delivery Operations (DPO) role is an entry‑level position designed for fresh graduates who want to start a career in operations and customer‑centric service delivery. As a trainee, you will be the first line of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that orders are processed accurately, tasks are updated in real time, and service level agreements (SLAs) are met consistently. You will work closely with senior operations managers, learning the nuances of transaction monitoring, data integrity, and effective communication across email and chat channels.

The role offers a structured learning path through the company’s Learning Management System (LMS), enabling you to acquire both functional and technical competencies.

Key responsibilities include

  • Respond to customer inquiries and issues via email or chat, delivering timely resolutions using strong written communication.
  • Perform high‑volume data entry and maintain databases with a focus on accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor transaction flow and ensure all activities are completed within agreed SLAs.
  • Uphold company policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Participate in self‑directed and instructor‑led LMS courses to continuously upgrade skills.
  • Seek regular feedback from mentors and peers to improve performance.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and deliver quality outcomes.
  • Generate daily/weekly status reports for management review.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and suggest automation ideas.
  • Assist in onboarding new trainees and sharing best practices.

Tech stack: The role primarily uses Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), internal ticketing tools (e.g., ServiceNow), basic SQL for data validation, and HCL’s proprietary LMS platform. Familiarity with cloud‑based collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or Slack is also beneficial.

Growth path: Successful trainees can progress to Delivery Operations Analyst, then to Senior Analyst, and eventually to Operations Manager or Process Lead. The exposure to end‑to‑end delivery processes, SLA management, and client interaction equips you with a versatile skill set applicable across many business functions.

Why join HCL? You will be part of a global technology leader that invests heavily in employee development, offers a clear career ladder, and provides exposure to diverse industry verticals. The supportive work culture, competitive compensation, and access to world‑class learning resources make HCL an ideal launchpad for a long‑term career in operations and technology services.

Technical questions 5
What is the difference between WHERE and HAVING clauses in SQL? Answer
Model answer: WHERE filters rows before any groupings are applied, while HAVING filters aggregated groups after GROUP BY has executed.
Explain SQL Window functions: ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), and DENSE_RANK(). Answer
Model answer: ROW_NUMBER() assigns unique sequential integers. RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties and skips ranks. DENSE_RANK() assigns identical ranks to ties without skipping rank numbers.
How do you handle NULL and missing values during data cleaning in Python/Pandas? Answer
Model answer: Use .isna().sum() to identify missing values. Impute with mean/median using .fillna() or remove with .dropna(subset=[...]) depending on variance impact.
What is the difference between Star Schema and Snowflake Schema in Data Warehousing? Answer
Model answer: Star Schema has denormalized dimension tables directly connected to the central Fact table. Snowflake Schema normalizes dimension tables into sub-dimensions to minimize redundancy.
How do you calculate MoM (Month-over-Month) growth in SQL? Answer
Model answer: Use LAG(revenue, 1) OVER (ORDER BY month) to fetch the previous month's revenue and compute (revenue - prev_revenue) / prev_revenue * 100.
